    • Description:1 map : manuscript, colour ; 145 x 229. 3 cm., folded in cover 42 x 29 cm.
    • Notes:Large manuscript copy of a Sekisui-style map of Japan, with detached covers.
      First edition of this map was drawn by Shôtô Sanjin or Nishimori Taijô, and was published in Osaka by Fujiya Yahê and Kichimonjiya Ichizaemon in 1808.
      Orientation: west.
      The title is in a vertical box along the short north end of the sheet.
      The legend is centred on the west side, and is divided into 3 sections: symbols for provinces, cities with castles, large inns, old castles / battlefields, large shrines / temples, famous places, provincial borders; table of corrected distances in the 5 districts, 7 highways, and sea routes; latitudes of various places.
      Eight compass roses, showing the Chinese calendar, surround the islands, but the meridians and parallels do not extend to the land.
