Summary:As in the Tchaikovsky edition, this volume includes the Russian texts to the complete 82 songs of Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninov, including IPA transcriptions with literal and idiomatic English translations. Professor Richter views the publication of these books not only as the fulfillment of an ambition of many years, but also as the filling of a genuine need. Current standards of Russian diction among Western singers leave much to be desired, which is attributable in part to the inconsistent transliterations traditionally used in the publication of Russian vocal music, providing at best a crude approximation of Russian speech sounds. A correct, exact transcription for representing sung Russian to non-Russian singers has long been sorely needed. - Publisher.

Contents:At the gate of the holy abode
I will tell you nothing
Again you leapt, my heart
C'eĢtait en avril
Twilight has fallen
Song of the disillusioned
The flower has faded
Do you remember the evening
Were you hiccuping?
Oh no, I beg you, forsake me not
Morning
In the silence of the secret night
Sing not to me, beautiful maiden
Oh you, my field
How long, my friend
The water lily
Child, you are as beautiful as a flower
Brooding
I have grown fond of sorrow
The dream
Prayer
I wait for you
The isle
For long there has been little consolatio in love
I was with her
These summer nights
How everyone loves you
Believe me not, friend
Oh, do not grieve
She is as lovely as the noon
In my soul
Spring torrents
It is time!
Fate : on Beethoven's Fifth symphony
By the fresh grave
Twilight
They answered
Lilacs
Fragment from De Musset
How fair this spot
On the death of a linnet
Melody
Before the icon
No prophet, I
How painful for me
Night
There are many sounds
He took everything from me
Let us rest
Two partings
Beloved, let us fly
Christ is risen!
To the children
I beg for mercy
Again I am alone
Before my window
The fountain Night is mournful
When yesterday we met
The ring
All things pass
Letter to K.S. Stanislavsky from S. Rachmaninov
The muse
In the soul of each of us
The storm
The migrant wind
Arion
The raising of Lazarus
It cannot be
Music
You knew him
I remember that day
The peasant
What happiness
Discord
From the Gospel of St. John, XV.13
In my garden at night
To her
Daisies
The rat-catcher
The dream
A-u!
