    • Summary:"In The Anachronicles George McWhirter concocts a witty new poetic form that allows an "anachronicler" to make observations - both insightful and absurd - from two separate points in time. At La Audiencia Beach in Mexico, Bo Derek stars in the movie 10 while Hernan Cortes and his Lieutenant-Conqueror of Colima, Sandoval, appraise the movie-making and supervise their own crews, four hundred years earlier on that same beach, as they build three brigantines to explore the Sea of Cortez. The verse-logs then follow the Spanish explorer Don Caamano and his successors up the Pacific Coast to where John McKay (aka Sean McKoy), an Irishman, is left to anachronicle and recuperate from his purple fever and double vision among the Nootka/Nuu-chah-nulth on Vancouver Island. The final poem, "Hops," retells the Irish legend of the goddess Liadan and the poet Cuirithir, whose voices come to one another from Canada and Ireland in a dialogue that spans fifty years and their present-day divided roles as mortal man and woman in holy orders."--BOOK JACKET.
